    In TerraFirmaCraft, not only must you manage your hunger, but you must manage your thirst. Hunger works similar to vanilla. Most pieces of food restore about a fifth of your hunger bar. Some pieces of food may restore a bit less, such as Cattail Roots. Eating food also restores Saturation, which can be thought of as how full you are. Depleting food or water results in sluggish movement and taking damage. Dying does not reset your nutrients or contaminants.

    Some foods are very filling, so they keep you from losing hunger for longer, while some foods have a short-lived effect.

    You will lose hunger just from regular gameplay. Hunger drains faster if you do things like sprint, swim, or become Overburdened. Information about the Saturation, Water, as well as Nutrients available from a food is available by hovering over it in your inventory. Using Shift reveals the full tooltip.

    All foods have a tooltip with this information. The tooltip includes the Decay Date of the food, which may be extended with preservation. When viewing this information, it's important to realize that not all foods have nutritional value. For example, Dough is a food, but it has no Nutrition, Saturation, or Water value. Eating it would not do much good.

    Thirst

    Thirst is the level of water in your body. It depletes at a similar rate to hunger. At high temperatures or levels of high hunger usage, your thirst will deplete faster. Luckily, drinking Fresh Water replenishes thirst. This can be done by clicking Right Click on a water block. Drinking saltwater causes you to lose thirst, and even has a chance of giving you the Thirst effect, which will drain you even more.

    To avoid saltwater or muddy water, look for rivers, lakes, and freshwater plants like Cattails.

    Knapping and firing a jug is a way to carry water with you. Fill it like a bucket with Right Click. Holding Right Click drinks the water.

    Nutrients

    There are five nutrients, all obtainable from food: Fruit, Vegetables, Protein, Grain, and Dairy. Eating food gives you its nutrients. Meals such as Soup combine more nutrients into one meal. Often meals will borrow the nutrients from their ingredients directly. This is important, because meals you ate a while ago don't count towards your nutrition.

    The total value of your nutrients determines your maximum HP. At max value you can achieve 30 hearts. While the lowest is 3 hearts.
    Your average nutrients also effect the following:

  • Fruit

    Fruit nutrients are mostly found from Fruiting Plants, like berry bushes, and fruit trees. A notable exception to this is Pumpkins and Melons, which nutritionally are fruits.

    Increasing your fruit value gives the following effects:

  • Average >55% →
  • Decreases thirst usage by 25%.
  • Average >85% →
  • Increases mining speed by 30%.

    Vegetables

    Vegetables are found in nearly every Crop.

    Increasing your vegetable value gives the following effects:

  • Value >55% →
  • Removes under-water mining penalty.
  • Value >85% →
  • Gives the respiration effect.

    Protein

    Protein can be sourced from the meat of Animals. It can also be obtained from some crops like legumes.

    Increasing your protein value gives the following effects:

  • Value >55% →
  • Decrease exhaustion multiplier by 25%.
  • Value >85% →
  • Allows you to carry an additional huge & heavy item without being Overburdened (like a sealed barrel).

    Grain

    Grain is found in cereal crops, such as Barley. The processing of grain is on the Bread page. Some root crops also count as grains.

    Increasing your grain value gives the following effects:

  • Value >55% →
  • Gives a 5% speed buff.
  • Value >85% →
  • Gives a 15% speed buff.

    Dairy

    Dairy comes from Milk, which is derived from Dairy Animals. Processing and drinking milk is covered on the Dairy page.

    Increasing your dairy value gives the following effects:

  • Value >55% →
  • Gives the Feather Falling I effect.
  • Value >85% →
  • Gives the Feather Falling IV effect.

    Contaminants

    In addition to nutrients TerraFirmaGreg also adds contaminants. There are three contaminants, all obtainable from food: Toxins, Parasites, and Microplastics. Contaminants can be passed into meal items and build up within the player.

    Toxins

    Toxins come from specifically dangerous crops and meats. Toxins decrease naturally at a rate of 3%/day. Consume Detox Capsules to actively Cure Toxins.

    Increasing your toxins value gives the following effects:

  • Value >0% →
  • On any new increase: 25% chance to get a random hazardous effect for 10sec.
  • Value >99% →
  • Death.

    Parasites

    Parasites come from eating certain raw meats or drinking muddy water. Consume Parasiticide Capsules to actively Cure Parasites.

    Increasing your parasites value gives the following effects:

  • Value >10% →
  • 20% chance to increase by 10% each day to a max of 60%.
  • Value >33% →
  • Increases passive exhaustion by 25%.
  • Value >66% →
  • Increases passive exhaustion by 50%.

    Microplastics

    Microplastics come from consuming food packaged in plastic. Microplastics decrease naturally at a rate of 1%/day. Consume Nanofiltration Capsules to actively Cure Microplastics.
    Increasing your microplastics value gives the following effects:

  • Value >33% →
  • Increase high-temp thirst decay multiplier by 25%
  • Value >66% ↴
  • ◦ Increase high-temp thirst decay multiplier by 50%.
  • ◦ On any new increase: 5% chance to get Cancer
  • .

    Transient Effects

    TerraFirmaGreg also adds Transient Effects. Transient effects exist for the purpose of transferring buffs/ debuffs from ingredients into meal items. Transient effects can be combined and consumed. However, they do not accumulate within the player―They are immediately consumed.
    The strength of the effect depends on the value of the nutrient. However, the way the strength is determined is not uniform for every type.

    Cooling

  • • Gives the player the Cooling
  • effect with 1 minute of duration per 1 nutrient point. With a max duration of 30min.

    🔆 Warming

  • • Gives the player the Warming
  • effect with 1 minute of duration per 1 nutrient point. With a max duration of 30min.

    🍹 Quenching

  • • Gives the player the Quenched
  • effect with 1 minute of duration per 1 nutrient point. With a max duration of 30min.

    Bolstering

  • • Gives the player the Absorption
  • effect for 8 minutes. With its amplifier scaled based on the amount of nutrient points with a max amplifier of 5.

    Hearty

  • • Gives the player the Health Boost
  • effect for 8 minutes. With its amplifier scaled based on the amount of nutrient points with a max amplifier of 5.

    💕 Rejuvenating

  • • Gives the player the Regeneration
  • effect with 1 minute of duration per 1 nutrient point. With a max duration of 3min.

    Freezing

  • • Gives the player the Freezing
  • effect with 5 seconds of duration per 1 nutrient point. With a max duration of 30sec.

    🔥 Blazing

  • • Gives the player the Blazing
  • effect with 5 seconds of duration per 1 nutrient point. With a max duration of 30sec.

    Radiating

  • • Gives the player the Glowing
  • effect for 24 seconds.
  • • Gives the player the Radiation
  • effect for 24 seconds. With its amplifier scaled based on the amount of nutrient points with a max amplifier of 5.

    🤢 Nauseating

  • • Gives the player the Nausea
  • effect with 5 seconds of duration per 1 nutrient point. With a max duration of 12sec.
  • • Gives the player the Hunger VI
  • effect with 10 seconds of duration per 1 nutrient point. With a max duration of 30sec.

    🧂 Parching

  • • Gives the player the Thirsty
  • effect with 1 minute of duration per 1 nutrient point. With a max duration of 8min.

    💀 Deadly

  • • Gives the player the Final Moments
  • effect for 8min. With every additional nutrient point halving the duration.

    🍖 Fulfilling

  • • Gives the player the Resistance
  • effect with 1 minute of duration per 1 nutrient point. With a max duration of 15min.
  • • Gives the player the Instant Health
  • effect. With its amplifier scaled based on the amount of nutrient points with a max amplifier of 2.

    🍰 Sugary

  • • Gives the player the Weakness
  • effect with 15 seconds of duration per 1 nutrient point. With a max duration of 5min.
  • • Gives the player the Speed
  • effect with 1 minute of duration per 1 nutrient point. With a max duration of 30min.

    🌶 Spicy

  • • Gives the player the Thirsty
  • effect with 15 seconds of duration per 1 nutrient point. With a max duration of 5min.
  • • Gives the player the Warming
  • mob effect with 1 minute of duration per 1 nutrient point. With a max duration of 30min.
